Client Speak

Our previous experience is the foundation upon which we build facilities to meet the needs of our clients. While it is an easy thing to say that we will produce an impressive facility within schedule and budget, it is far more rewarding to cite the trust and satisfaction engendered in our clients. The best testament to our abilities comes from the words of our clients and the communities they represent.
VIRGINIA TECH
“We are so very pleased at the way things turned out at the McComas Student Recreation Center at Virginia Tech. It was a project that provides VT with a dynamic two story fitness zone and maximized the use of underutilized space. The design merged all handsomely with the surroundings. The addition and renovation addressed our most serious recreational sports needs, and created both a highly functional and aesthetically pleasing space. The entire project was done on time, under budget and the students are thrilled.”
Richard J. Ferraro, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs
“Our Architects listened to us more than we ever imagined. Being selected as a NIRSA Outstanding Sports Facilities award winner means that we have given the students of Virginia Tech a quality facility they can be proud of.”
Chris Wise, Director of Campus Recreation, Virginia Tech
UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN
“After having worked with the firm of Hughes Group Architects over the last six years, I can personally testify to the true sense of trust and admiration I have for them… Our complex building program included the renovation and expansion of two unattractive, out-dated structures which had become unresponsive to contemporary student recreation needs… Hughes Group Architects immediately grasped the ‘big picture.’ In a series of workshops with our recreation staff, facilities staff, university administrators, and students, they reshuffled the University’s plan. They developed an approach which made better use of our existing resources which helped conserve our budget and provide a higher level of service during the construction periods… ‘Transformational’ is the best word I can think of in describing the physical changes to out facilities and the effects of those changes on the Campus Recreation program at the University of Illinois. We are truly grateful to Hughes Group Architects for providing the leadership, creativity, and technical skill which sustained our hopes and dreams throughout the design and construction process.”
Jesse A. Clements, Director of Campus Recreation (Retired), University of Illinois

THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA
“We wish to thank you for the excellent design of the University of Virginia Aquatic and Fitness Center. Your firm provided a quality design, complete construction documents, timely review of product submittals and exceptional project oversight. The dollar amount of change orders during construction represented less than 2% of the total project cost, a reflection of Hughes Group Architects’ thorough attention to detail and outstanding professional effort. Thank you! We wish Hughes Group Architects the greatest success in future efforts and look forward to additional opportunities for other successful capital projects at the University of Virginia.”

“I am able to offer Hughes Group my highest recommendation without reservation. I believe that one of the most noteworthy qualities of Hughes Group, in addition to their outstanding capability as designers, architects, and construction managers, was their ability to work collaboratively with a large, diverse planning committee which included stakeholders from the student body and the faculty as well as from the Student Affairs Division and the Administration and Finance Division. The leadership exhibited by Hughes Group in sustaining a sense of teamwork in this complex work environment was essential to the success of the project and was apparent at each stage of project development.”

“I have had the pleasure of working with Hughes Group Architects on four highly successful library projects and would recommend their services unequivocally. Common to each of the projects for the Fairfax County Library System is the fact that they were completed within their budgets and within their proposed time frames. Another common thread is the successful integration of library technologies within Hughes Group’s unique way of producing a quality of architecture which truly draws people time and again to their community library.”
Edwin S. Clay III, Director of Libraries, Fairfax County
CITY OF FALLS CHURCH, VIRGINIA
“We believe we chose the right architects and would make the same choice again. The Library Board and staff and the citizens of Falls Church are extremely pleased with and proud of the new library…Attention to costs was such that we were able, without additional funding, to stretch the budget to cover relocation of the library operation during construction and purchase all new shelving and almost all new furnishings and furniture. All this could only have been accomplished with excellent services from our architects…every meeting improved the plan. This close collaboration was vital to the success of the finished product.”
Deane Dierksen, Library Director, City of Falls Church
